Adele Evans runs the MK Half Marathon for Leo’s Appeal

The Date: Monday 5th May

The Venue: Milton Keynes

The Challenge: Adele Evans to run the Half Marathon of Milton Keynes, a total of 13.1 miles, in aid of Leo’s Appeal, MK Hospital’s local charity.

FS1 were up bright and early on Bank Holiday Monday 5th May. It had been a long time coming, but the day was here; Adele was ready to face the challenge of completing her first half marathon.

Conditions were perfect, sunny and warm, and we were all looking forward to the drink in a lovely pub garden afterwards.

We bumped into Leo the Lion before the race began, he was certainly enjoying the exciting atmosphere!

We joined the crowds of people along the start line by MK Dons Stadium. The race would take them all the way to the city centre and back… After warm up jumps and speeches from the Mayor, they were ready to go. In the flurry of excitement we cheered on Adele as she began her mammoth challenge!

Whilst Adele was running for Leo, things were a little quiet. We did watch the Superhero race, but the highlight has to be Nicola demanding a photo of herself with a Stormtrooper who came to visit.

We took our seats  in the Stadium to cheer on our Adele. Little did we know of her struggles – Apparently the first ten miles were a breeze; after that, her legs threatened to give in, but she was not going to be beaten. No way!

Adele made it back to the Stadium in 2 hours and 51 minutes. We screamed her over the finish line and celebrated with group hugs (and a cider).

Everyone at FS1 is so proud of Adele, we’re almost inspired to run our own marathons! (I say almost).

In the end, Adele raised just over £600 for Leo’s Appeal, to support the children’s ward services at Milton Keynes Hospital.

And now? Adele’s busy deciding what her next challenge will be!
