With each passing tax year new legislation is almost guaranteed to mean changes for employers. So what can employers expect this year?

The Apprenticeship Levy. As of April employers will have to pay a levy of 0.5% of their total pay bill, including temporary workers. There is an allowance in place of £15,000, meaning that only companies with a pay bill of over £3 million will have to pay.

New tax rules for contractors in the public sector. New rules mean that from 6th April the responsibility for determine whether PAYE or NI applies to a contractor in the public sector will lie with the local authority or the agency that supplies the contractor.

The gender pay gap. Companies who employ 250 people or over will soon need to publish data on their own gender pay gap. This includes hourly pay, bonuses, and the number of men and women at each pay level or bracket.

It’s vital that companies are aware of these changes that are soon to take place and start planning effectively to ensure they’re not left behind.
