Over the years we’ve seen countless shocking (and sometimes funny, if we’re honest) PR crisis’s for the globes top brands. Some say no news is bad news, but it’s vital that you’re prepared for crisis communications should your business be hit by bad press – here’s how.

Do your research. See how other like for like brands managed their crisis, understand what worked, what didn’t, and what would resonate with your audience and peers.

Plan ahead. Think about the type of crisis scenarios that could hit your organisation, and plan your response. Even test your response with colleagues to see how it could play out.

Build the trust. You’re working with journalists every day – build up trust with the key contacts in your sector when it comes to journalism so you’re confident of good communication with them when it comes to crisis time.

Use social media. It’s all about digital communications these days. Plan your digital strategies first when it comes to a crisis to make sure your message is communicated quickly.
