In today’s 24/7 world, with access to email and work more fluid than ever before, companies are starting to see the benefits of offering flexible working to their employees. For the employee, flexible working has a lot of bonuses, giving staff the freedom to work when it suits them and offering a greater work / life balance. But what are the real consequences of flexible working for businesses?

Flexible working means an extension of the traditional 9-5 working pattern, meaning companies can be more competitive in today’s market. The flexibility offered to staff inevitably increases staff morale and retention, which in turn increases company productivity.

Of course, there will be challenges to companies that decide to change their ways and go for flexible working. Initially there could be some disruption to service and operational issues, but with an effective plan to make the change companies can see the benefits of flexibility sooner rather than later.

In today’s market, with in particular the digital skills shortage, flexible working could make the difference for companies trying to attract the best to their teams. So maybe now’s the time to think outside the 9-5?
